FRI. Mar. 29: James Maddock, Scott McClatchy

March 29, 2024

A rock & roll lifer, James Maddock has been carving his unique path since the 1980s, when the New York City based, British-born singer/songwriter kicked off his career with a raw, soulful voice; a storyteller's sense of narrative; and the ability to blur the lines between folk, classic pop, and rock.James has performed regularly with Willie Nile, Aaron Comess (Spin Doctors), David Immergluck (Counting Crows), Brian Mitchell (Levon Helm Band) and SNL drummer Shawn Pelton and has shared the stage with many well known artists such as Bruce Springsteen, The Waterboys, Pete Seeger, Levon Helm and many others. According to radio legend Vin Scelsa, Maddock's "heartbreakingly beautiful and exquisitely crafted" music "touches the soul." Relix Magazine put it this way: “James Maddock possesses the kind of lived-in craggy voice that would sound authoritative if he were singing the sports pages. Fortunately, he doesn't need to do that because his compositional skills are a match for his delivery."

SAT. APR. 20: Dan May, Liz Miller

April 20, 2024

A chance meeting at a bus stop at the LA Airport for two songwriters heading to a convention has led to a 25- year friendship in life and music. And to celebrate a quarter century, they are meeting up for a rare live stage appearance together to share their songs, stories and experiences in a songwriter’s night that is not to be missed.
DAN MAY: While studying music composition in college, he inadvertently stumbled upon an international opera career that forced him to leave a promising future as a songwriter behind. Cut to 15 years later, and after a vocal cord surgery that left him no longer able to meet the demands of opera, Dan returned to doing what he does best; writing and performing his own songs. Since his crossover from classical to popular music, Dan has hit the ground running. With six critically acclaimed albums already under his belt, including his 2011 release "Dying Breed" making the Philadelphia Inquirer's list of "Top 10 Albums" of 2011. Dan has just added album number seven to the list with his latest work, "Legacy" which was released in May of 2023. In 2016, Dan added "Author" to his list of credentials, with the release of his first book, "Adventures in Grocery Shopping," which made the Philadelphia Inquirer's list of "Best Books of 2016." He followed that up with his second book, again a compilation of essays about his life experiences, "Street Urchins, Poets and Dream Visitors." Dan's live shows now include readings from both books in addition to singing songs off of his seven albums. The readings have become a fan favorite and a staple of his live performances.

LIZ MILLER: Don’t let the North Jersey accent throw you. Maybe it’s that unique combo of Grandma’s Kentucky DNA that helps Liz Miller slip into and out of Americana, Blues, and Rock with native ease. The gravel in Liz’ deep voice would suggest a world weariness, yet her songs range from fun to awkward to profound. Her third CD, Lucky Me, capped a three-cd release party in May 2023 at the Living Room in Ardmore PA that celebrated coming back to live after the end of the pandemic.Lucky Me was a swinging love song about being grateful for having the special someone in your life; Liz notes ADD as one of her favorite yet autobiographical tunes. All That I Am is one of those classic standards that you'd hear in the background while dancing in the candlelight. You can hear about Liz’s musical path on the "Tales of the Road Warrior" podcast, hosted by Hal Aaron out of Philadelphia. Both Liz Miller and The Xconditionals can be heard on WOS radio / podcast available on Apple Music. Having projects in Jazz/Lounge, Alt Rock, Americana, and an Off Broadway Musical for new mothers, Liz Miller does it all and loves it all!

April 27, 2024

2022 & 2023 Blues Blast Award Winner “HORN PLAYER OF THE YEAR” It’s not surprising that the press has been quick to commend her efforts as well. Blues Blast Magazine affirms, “Vanessa Collier is a fresh face on the American blues scene, and in addition to her soulful vocals, she brings a mighty sax to the table...” Blues Music Magazine proclaims, “Collier is a fresh face who comes to the blues stage carrying her reed instruments, a dual degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, a major label debut, almost two years of touring with Joe Louis Walker, and a mature musical vision…Collier commands center stage with her vocals, soloing, and stage presence.” Midwest Record exclaims, “This bluesy singing sax player knows how to bring the slinking funk to her captivating, award winning sound that has echoes in young Bonnie Raitt/Maria Muldaur vocal sounds…Killer stuff on every level, this sounds like one of the reasons you first became a music fan. Killer stuff.” and AXS.Com declares that she “might as well go ahead and add another shelf to her trophy case because clearly, she’s going to need it. With a voice that often recalls that of blues-rock stalwart Bonnie Raitt, Collier turns up the heat...”
